Biomass availability is expected to greatly increase. This increase will mainly be from agricultural wastes such as corn stover, and from the growing of energy crops such as switchgrass and miscanthus. Biomass production will be regulated by its usage. If the need for biomass does not materialize, then plant waste will be left unused and energy crops will not get planted. On the other hand, if a great need for biomass is created, production of these crops will increase. The figure below shows biomass resources based on future higher usage of biomass.
